Before You Were My Mother and Flames of a Continuous Field of Time were screened in Zakir Hussain College to a very engaged audience of 25 attendees on February 13, 2023. Students and faculty at the college discussed on length after the screening on the themes of the two films and the relatability of the violence committed on women and dalit community. After the screening students claimed that both films, directed by Prasuna Dongol and Barkha Mukhiya respectively, were relatable and many students expressed that the themes in both films were similar to experiences in their lives or within their community. An hour long informal discussion was also conducted post screening, with many students and faculty staying over to discuss issues of sexual violence in their communities or regions in India as well as the depiction of women in Indian film.
Ashoka University housed our exhibition from February 15-18 while also screening the 6 FSA produced films on the topic of sexual violence in Southasia. The exhibition drew a total of 40-50 students in the 2 days that it remained open.
