Chitrakala Khatri, 38, from Agrakhanchi has a college going son and daughter in high school. She came to Bangalore 13 years ago, accompanying her husband who worked at the time in a security firm. She runs a grocery shop from her home in the northern suburb of R.T Nagar, communicating with her customers in fluent Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and Nepali.
“The children say … you’ve lived here so long … you haven’t even bought a house, a site even, for us. They’ve been brought up here; they won’t get ‘set’.”
